A “Made in Europe” fashion brand
“Mourjjan” is the dream child of Michael Muntinga & Roland Rahal. Based in Zurich, they turn their joint passion for nature and fashion into striking luxurious silk pieces that evoke the secret gifts of the wilderness.
Where East meets West: Roland & Michael combine the mysteries of the Orient with the vivacious art and colours of the Dutch Masters. Original designs printed on the highest quality raw silk, by the shores of lake Como, bring us into the world of the unexpected, where old meets new, Nature meets Man, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
Following three years of work and preparation, “Mourjjan” was launched at a private fashion show in 2014, in Zurich, Switzerland.
In summer 2015, Mourjjan opened a flagship store in Mykonos (Greece). In May 2017, Mourjjan opened their pop-up store in Zurich inside Heimatwerk on Uraniastrasse.
Roland – “Life is about the power of beauty and spreading it across the planet”
Born in Beirut, Lebanese-British Roland Georges Rahal’s passion for fabric and textile design started at 12 with his first sewing machine. He designed and hand-embroidered evening dresses for his mother and family, which gathered both attention and “orders” from a wider circle of friends. After pursuing a background in international journalism, marketing and public relations, Roland came back to his first calling – fashion – in 2009. Inspired by the iconic creations of Yves-Saint Laurent in the 1960’s, Roland takes the highest quality materials and turns these into deceptively simple, flowing designs that make women feel elegant and beautiful.
Michael – “Colour is vibration and vibration affects our well being”
Born in Zurich, of Dutch origin, and raised in the Swiss mountains, Michael Jan Muntinga puts a love of colour, nature and shamanic storytelling at the heart of his print creations. After studying product design at Art Center College in Los Angeles, he received a Masters from the Domus Academy in Milan and was inspired by a visit to the scarf-printing factories by Lake Como. Michael would return to this fashion dream after working in furniture and graphic design. His unique designs connect Nature to Man, Dream to Reality, Story to Colour.
